About Novation Mediation
Principled. Impartial. Experienced.
Novation Mediation was founded on the belief that conflict, handled well, can become an opportunity — for clarity, for resolution, and for a better path forward.

Jason Tyler Herklotz
Jason Tyler Herklotz is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family, Dependency, and Civil Court Mediator with over 30 years of experience in negotiation & conflict resolution. After two decades of brokering and negotiating entertainment business matters, he founded Novation Mediation to offer families and legal professionals a better alternative to adversarial proceedings.
Jason's academic foundation is as multidisciplinary as his practice. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Leo University with a specialization in Clinical and Counseling Psychology — giving him rare insight into the emotional dynamics that drive, and often derail, conflict. Jason is honored with memberships in the Omega Nu Lambda National Honor Society and the Psi Chi Honor Society in Psychology. He attended WMU–Thomas M. Cooley School of Law, and further broadened his perspective with a Master of Arts in New Media Journalism and undergraduate degrees in Entertainment Business Management and Digital Media from Full Sail University. That breadth is not incidental: it shapes a mediator who understands not just the legal framework of a dispute, but the human story inside it.
The practice is grounded in interest-based negotiation — a method that moves parties away from positional bargaining and toward durable, mutually acceptable agreements. He brings the same rigour to every file, whether it involves a complex multi-asset separation or a focused parenting plan dispute.

Our philosophy
Conflict is not the problem. How we handle it is.
Neutrality
A mediator's role is not to decide who is right — it is to create the conditions in which both parties can reach their own resolution. We hold that neutrality absolutely.
Interests over positions
Positional bargaining produces winners and losers. Interest-based negotiation asks a different question: what does each party actually need? The answers are often more compatible than the positions suggest.
Durability
Agreements that parties craft themselves are agreements they own. They are more likely to be honoured, more likely to adapt when circumstances change, and less likely to return to court.
Respect for the process
Mediation works when both parties engage in good faith. We set clear expectations, maintain structured sessions, and ensure every voice is heard — without allowing the process to be weaponised.
